Acil Odah: Women Planting Thousands of Trees Movement in Commemoration of Kartini Day in South Kalimantan

Banjarbaru – Chairperson of the South Kalimantan Provincial Women’s Family Welfare Empowerment Team (TP PKK), Hj. Raudatul Jannah, led the Women Planting movement in order to commemorate Kartini Day in 2024 at the Tropical Forest area of the South Kalimantan Governor’s Office in Banjarbaru on Monday (22/4).

Wearing traditional attire or kebaya, women who are familiarly called Acil Odah invited thousands of women, including government employees, non-government employees, women’s organizations, students, and female students, as well as other officials to plant around 4,000 tree seedlings.

“Don’t just talk, but we can also work in South Kalimantan,” said Acil Odah, who is also the Head of the South Kalimantan Provincial Health Office.

The theme of the action “Women Planting” in commemoration of Kartini Day in 2024 was organized by the Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Service (DPPPA) and the South Kalimantan Forestry Office.

Acil Odah’s initiative to invite thousands of women was also attended by the South Kalimantan Governor, H. Sahbirin Noor, or Paman Birin, heads of government agencies, representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, banking and universities in South Kalimantan.

Before the simultaneous planting carried out by the acil-acil (women) together, Acil Odah and Paman Birin released 300 turtledoves, pigeons, and doves in the same location.

After the planting, Paman Birin and Acil Odah also interacted with the tree-planting participants, including women groups who are part of Acil Jukung (female traders in the Floating Market), Acil Kambang (flower sellers), and Acil Sadap (women who tap rubber trees).

Acil Odah hopes that the plants can grow well and provide benefits for environmental sustainability and human beings. Acil Odah revealed that Kartini Day is a special day commemorated every year and is the contribution of RA Kartini to motivate oneself in the struggle of the present time.

“Although gender equality is constantly being promoted, women still remember their duties as mothers and wives who must obey their husbands,” she said.

Acil Odah said that the reason for commemorating RA Kartini with tree planting is because in the future the supply of oxygen and absorption of carbon dioxide are becoming increasingly important. It is the function of trees as the population increases.

“Not only that, in Islamic teachings, planting trees has worship value, because every tree can be utilized by living creatures, humans, and animals,” she said.

Meanwhile, Paman Birin in his speech said that commemorating Kartini Day means commemorating the history of the struggle of a woman, RA Kartini, who has the spirit of heroism and struggle.

“Hopefully, women can further honor the name of Banua in South Kalimantan,” he said.

Paman Birin also told the story of his childhood and how his mother worked tirelessly to support his nine children, alone after several divorces from their father.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the organizing committee, who also serves as Acting Head of DPPKA South Kalimantan, Fathimatuzzahra, reported that the activity involved more than 2,500 women planting eucalyptus trees (eucalyptus) totaling 4,000 seedlings scattered in the Indonesian Rainforest area or next to the South Kalimantan Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR) Office, 1,800 seedlings, and another 2,200 seedlings in the ATR BPN Office area, the South Kalimantan Provincial Government office area in Banjarbaru.

The tree planting activity also included competitions and the awarding of women who have contributed and achieved success in South Kalimantan, including Fatimah, Lasmina Hartati, Husnawari, Mulyani, Ernawati, Erma Ningsih, Erma Suryani, Matsudah, Sri Anggraini, Aneka, Endang Susanti, Sri Rejeki, Nur Irani.

The activities also included flower arranging and poetry competitions which were participated in by the acil-acil wearing complete Banjar women’s attire, such as wearing a daster, a tapih (headscarf), and wet bapupur basah (rice powder).
