“Kekurangan Sistem Rating Usia di Apple Store Membahayakan Anak”

Apple App Store’s age rating system is deemed insufficient in protecting children, according to a recent report. After a day-long study, it was found that most apps are considered unsuitable for children and pose risks. Apple has various mechanisms in place to ensure the safety of iPhone, iPad, and Mac usage for children, including parental controls to limit app usability based on age. However, a joint report by Heat Initiative and ParentsTogether Action revealed that the age ratings in the App Store are not effective enough. The report assigned a researcher to review as many apps as possible within 24 hours, focusing on categories with a history of security risks for children such as beauty, chatting, diet, internet access, and games. Out of the 800 apps reviewed, over 200 iPhone apps were found to have concerning content or features, targeting children. For example, while chatting apps are typically rated for ages 17 and above, with few for children, weight loss apps were rated for children as young as 4 years old. The need for more accurate and effective app ratings in the App Store for the protection of children is evident.
