Semarang – Polrestabes Semarang has successfully arrested a religious teacher involved in the act of abusing several of his students. Information obtained mentioned that the arrested man, with the initials PR (51) and residing in West Semarang, has been officially designated as a suspect by the police.
Kompol Aris Munandar, the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Semarang Police, explained that the arrest of the suspect was made after a report from the parents of the victims of the tragic incident. From the gathered data, there are 16 victims, most of whom are minors.
“The victims participated in religious study activities at the suspect’s place. Currently, we are still collecting data on the total number of victims,” he said on Saturday (11/18/2023).
The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing questioning at the Semarang Police Headquarters. The handling of this case is entrusted to the Child and Women Protection Unit of Semarang Police.
“This case is being handled by the unit, and the suspect is already in custody,” said AKBP Donny Lumbantoruan, the Criminal Investigation Unit Chief of Semarang Police.
Meanwhile, the Head of the neighborhood association (RT) in the suspect’s residence, David, stated that the arrest of PR occurred on Friday, 11/17/2023. David found out about the incident from local residents.
“I first heard about this through a phone call from the treasurer’s staff. I was immediately told that Mr. PR was involved in a case. Although at first, it was not yet certain, the information was later confirmed and it was known that he had been detained,” he said at his residence.
David also added that the suspect’s wife is also a religious teacher in the area. However, the religious study activities took place in RT 1. Even so, due to the increasing number of students, the activities were moved to another RT.
“Mr. PR, as far as I know, works at the printing press in the morning and teaches at the Islamic school in the evening. The exact number of victims is unknown, but it is estimated to be more than a dozen,” he added.
The Head of RT 1, Towaf, also revealed that his house had been used as a place of examination by the Child and Women Protection Unit of Semarang Police for the victims. “Last Friday (11/17), they gathered here. There were three PPA officers conducting the examination,” said Towaf.
He also expressed his surprise at the news, considering that PR is known as a religious person and often gives sermons at the mosque and advice to the surrounding community.
“We are very surprised by this news, especially considering the image he has shown so far, especially since the victims are children. This is very regrettable,” he added with concern. (Didiet Cordiaz/Semarang)
